We’re two days away from the first match of the Austin FC season and we want to get you there as easily and safely as possible. Did you know 20% of the Austin FC fans that attend each match get there on CapMetro? We’re proud of that stat line, and we’re grateful that number continues to grow, but the number of trains we have isn’t (and that’s okay)! We have enough trains for regular service, but you’ve probably noticed the trains are packed on match days and then we move folks to Q2 Stadium in overflow vehicles. That’s still the plan for this year, so be sure to consider all your options before you head to the match! A fast and reliable way to get to Q2 Stadium’s doorstep is the CapMetro Rapid 803.

Here’s the full breakdown:
- On CapMetro Rail, we are running Special Event Rail Schedules for Austin FC matches and we’ll have trains there as the schedule shows. In previous seasons we’ve been able to run “sweeper” trains, or overflow trains, that pick people up when the scheduled trains are full. Our trains are at their midlife and presently we have multiple trains undergoing work on various systems and getting mechanical updates. With that work ongoing, we will not have as many trains as we did last year to serve as overflow trains, which typically help us with increased demand. We will have overflow buses going around the rail platforms, but they may take a bit longer as they navigate through the city.
- CapMetro Rapid and Bus routes 803, 3, 383, and 392 drop you right at the stadium, too! These routes to Q2 are a hassle-free option with multiple Park & Ride locations if you don’t live nearby. If you ask a CapMetro staff member how they’d recommend getting to the match, most of us would recommend the 803 or an early train!
- If you haven’t taken CapMetro since the last Austin FC season, you might have missed the announcement that we’re using Transit App for the latest and greatest in trip planning! Download the app to plan your trip. We’re also using a new app to pay for fares called Umo. It’s not quite ready for this weekend but be on the lookout for more directions on how to download and use it for an easy way to pay for your trip for future matches.
What should you do?
- If you’re taking the train, get there early! If the train is full, you might need to board one of the overflow buses we’ll have by the rail platforms.
- Consider taking the 803! The 803 is a convenient and reliable way to get to the match on your own schedule, and you’ll have a seat waiting for you! Check out all your options for going to the match: https://www.capmetro.org/special-events/Q2
