For our latest #MeetCapMetro, we’re shining a spotlight on Yolanda White, a Transportation Superintendent of Operations who’s been making a difference at CapMetro for over 25 years.
Yolanda’s passion for transit began early. She cherishes memories of Sunday afternoons with her grandmother and family where, after church, they’d hop on the bus and explore the bustling streets of Baltimore.
“From there, I fell in love with transit.” Over the years, she’s had many hats, starting as a part-timer collecting ridership data and then as a bus operator. Later, she transitioned to an administrative assistant before advancing up the ladder to where she is today.
So, what’s a typical day like for a Transportation Superintendent of Operations?
“There is no typical day,” jokes Yolanda.
Her responsibilities range from precision coordination with her team so that buses get out on the streets on time to on-the-spot problem-solving. Some days are harder than others, but she embraces opportunities to look at the bigger picture and see how she can help.
When she’s not overseeing operations, she enjoys fishing and spending time with her family—Whether it’s a fun outdoor activity or simply talking about a book. You may be surprised to know that despite her deep Baltimore roots, she’s actually a Kansas City Chiefs fan. Go figure!
Yolanda’s advice for those of you out there who may be starting your career or are looking for a career change is, “If you love people, helping people, engaging with people, transit is where you need to be.”
Well said, Yolanda! Thank you for all you do!
