Welcome back to #MeetCapMetroMonday, the series that introduces you to members of our team who work daily to keep Central Texans connected. Up this week: Marcus Wright, Superintendent of Training for the CapMetro Training Academy.
Marcus Wright is one of the very first welcoming faces many new employees see when they join the CapMetro team.
A CapMetro employee for nearly two decades – since 2005 – Wright oversees the agency’s training academy, helping to get new bus operators ready to hit the road confidently and safely.
“All of the new hires who are part of Operations come through my department,” he said. “I love meeting the new people. I love being able to positively affect their careers and provide them with an opportunity to be able to earn a living for the rest of their lives.”
Prior to his current role, Wright held a variety of positions with CapMetro, starting as a bus operator himself. Over the years he was promoted to roles in Field Operations and Radio Control, before becoming a Training Academy instructor, serving as Director of Safety and Training and a stint in Contracts Oversight – proof that advancement opportunities abound for CapMetro team members. All those roles, Wright says, helped prepare him for where he is today professionally.
Outside of work, you’ll find Wright spending time with his family, including his 19-month-old daughter, chasing her down at the park or keeping a watchful eye as she rides around in her Power Wheels. He likes to “fool around” on the trumpet and, like the rest of us, take frequent vacations.
“I like to go anywhere that has a beach or some water,” he said. “I love going to the movies and I like eat.”
Speaking of eating, Wright admits Oreos – especially the peanut butter ones – are a weakness. You’re not alone, Marcus!
