In today’s episode, we’ll be taking the Rapid 803 with Owner and Executive Chef of JewBoy Burgers, Chef Mo Pittle. Born in Cleveland, Chef Mo grew up in El Paso and graduated from the University of Texas right here in Austin. After earning his advertising degree, Mo became a copywriter and creative director, working in multiple cities along both coasts for over a decade. In 2016, Chef Mo decided to trade in his traditional business and corporate lifestyle, move back to Austin, and open the JewBoy Burgers food truck.

Growing up as one of the only Jewish kids in El Paso, Texas, Chef Mo’s friends gave him the affectionate nickname “El JewBoy.” He finds the nickname “JewBoy” to be a loving mix of Latino border and Jewish culture. All these years later, he still embraces the moniker and has built an entire brand around the cultural blend.
After solely operating as a food truck, Chef Mo and JewBoy Burgers began to thrive in Austin. In the summer of 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Chef Mo officially opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant on Airport Blvd. In 2021, a second brick-and-mortar location, JewBoy Sub Shop, would open in North Austin. By 2022, JewBoy would expand to Slider locations, a fast–casual dining option for customers looking for a small bite. Today, Chef Mo owns and operates the original JewBoy Burgers location on Airport Blvd and five JewBoy Slider locations around town, all located in high-traffic entertainment zones to serve late-night crowds.

Beginning with one food truck, Chef Mo has created an entire universe of JewBoy restaurants across the city. Recognized for blending Texas and Mexican border food with a Jewish twist, JewBoy Burgers has captivated the local community and claimed numerous awards along the way.

Vibrant and rich with flavor, the Austin food scene reflects the weird personality that makes this city so endearing. JewBoy Burgers serves customers a fusion of culture, personality, and flavor like no other. Patties at JewBoy are cooked with onions in the style of Mexican diner burgers and served on East Coast potato rolls. Alongside the mountain of meat, JewBoy Burgers also offers crispy latkes, a traditional Jewish potato pancake.

Culture means everything to Chef Mo and he founded JewBoys to truly blend the Jewish and Latino culinary styles he grew up with. “Culture is what drives our society, what defines us, what moves us. It’s OK to celebrate differences,” said Chef Mo. “So, when it comes to food, I’m just like, yeah, I’m going to celebrate every weirdness and difference that I have. Open your mind, but more importantly, open your mouth, because if you know Jewish people, or you know Latinos, you know you’re about to feast.”
